REPORT ON WORKSHOP ON “COMMERCIAL PLANTATION OF BAMBOO AND ITS VALUE ADDED PRODUCT” at Diphu, Karbi Anglong District, Assam Training Report of the ITI, Kokrajhar students at CBTC premises

A one day workshop on “Commercial Plantation of bamboo and its value added products” was held on 29th March’ 2007 at Farmer’s Auditorium (Agriculture Colony), Diphu in Karbi Anglong District of Assam. This workshop was organized by Department of Environment & Forest & Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. The main purpose of organizing this workshop was to create awareness on plantation and commercial utilization of bamboo amongst the rural poor and other field functionaries. This workshop was also intended to disseminate information regarding activities to be taken up under Nation Bamboo Mission, a centrally sponsored scheme of Department of Agriculture & Co-operation, Govt. of India in  Karbi Anglong District.

This workshop was attended by farmers, NGOs, SHGs, Entrepreneurs, Line department officials etc. The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council and Sri C.M. Sarma, IFS, Conservator of Forest, KAAC, Diphu welcome the participants. The Deputy Commissioner of the District along with the Executive Member, Principal Secretary  of the Autonomous Council,  attended the programme as special guest.

The workshop was divided into two Sessions, i.e. Technical Session I & Technical Session II. The theme for Technical Session I was Bamboo as resource and Technical  Session II was Bamboo as enterprise.

CBTC was invited to attend this workshop and was allotted some bamboo related topics for presentation before the audience.  From CBTC the following person attended the programme:

  1. Mr. Kamesh Salam
  2. Mr. I.H. Saikia
  3. Mr. Anjal Goswami
  4. Mr. B.J. Lal
  5. Mr. Ritesh Saha

 

From CBTC three papers were presented:

  1. Mission activities proposed to be implemented in Assam with special refrence to Karbi Anglong under National Bamboo Mission and availability of fiscal benefit:

Besides the paper presentation, film show on industrial processing of bamboo and bamboo housing was displayed during the workshop which was facilitated by Mr Anjal Goswami, Deputy Manager, and CBTC

This paper presentation and film show on bamboo generated lot of interest amongst the participants who raised different questions to clarify their queries. The participants revealed that they got lot of new information on bamboo technology from this workshop which will help them in setting up bamboo based units in the district and asked CBTC to come forward to help them.
