PROGRESS REPORT - May 2007

1.The 1st Meeting on Action Plan under the NBM for the North-East and the Eastern Region of the country was organized by BTSG - CBTC in Guwahati on the 8th & 9th Feb. 2007. Except for one or two states, officials’ representatives from all the other states attended the meeting. The meeting mainly focuses on preparation of action plan by each individual state. The officials were also taken on field exposure to some bamboo nurseries and other places where bamboo related activities are undertaken.
2.Training to Lead Farmers:
The total number of farmers to be trained as per the approval is 120 and based on which a time table was made for conducting the training to the farmer on Imparting Training to the Lead Farmers on “Nursery Raising & Commercial Plantation of Bamboo”. The training has been scheduled to be conducted during the month of May, 2007. In this regard intimation letter have been despatched to the concern states Mission Director of National Bamboo Mission. Few states have responded and response has been awaited from most of the state. The place, number of farmers and target groups are given as below:

3.Training Workshop for Field Functionaries:
The number of targeted trainees/ Field Functionaries is 60. Except for the state of Jharkhand and West Bengal where there is no provision for the same, all the others states under BTSG of CBTC has been covered. The training is scheduled to be held at NIRD, Guwahati on the 8th & 9th of June, 2007.
In this regard, intimation letters have been sent to all the concern states and their responses is awaited. The no. of participants and the target groups for this training is given as below:

4.Training Manual Design & Printing:
Training Manual on Propagation of Bamboo has been prepared and is due to be completed by the end of May, 2007. For this, the assistance of specialized institutes and Forest Research Institutes has been utilized for making the module more comprehensive.
5.Centralized Publicity Campaign:
For wider publicity of the National Bamboo Mission, advertisement has been given to the Newspaper, Magazines and Electronic Media. (A sample copy of the advertisement is enclosed). Besides these mass media, Posters, Brochures and other forms of publicity have been used so as to spread more awareness among the mass and involve as many people as possible in the National Bamboo Mission.

6.Organizing an International Level Seminar:
In order to attract and make the participation from the foreign countries convenient, the national capital New Delhi has been chosen as the venue for holding the International Level Seminar some time in the month of September. The detail programme schedule is under preparation.
7.Exposure & Educational Trip to Bamboo Developed countries:
This has been planned for the month of July. About 11 officials involving in NBM related activities are the target group. The officials will be visiting China in two batches, the first group in the 1st week of July and the 2nd group in the last week of July, 2007.
