CBTC as BTSG under the NBM

The Government of India has recently cleared the much awaited ‘National Bamboo Mission’ to be operational from the 10th Plan to be extended up to 11th five year Plan at a total outlay of Rs. 568 crore (approx.). The North Eastern States can take the benefits under this mission for various activities under the mission. The Centrally Sponsored National Bamboo Mission (NBM) launched by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India envisages to enhance the area under Bamboo Plantation of selected species with intensively managed so that the yield improves from the present 3 tonnes per hectare (approx. avg.) to about 18 to 20 tonnes. The total area to be covered in the 10th and 11th Plan will be 1,76,000 hectares in both the forest and non-forest land. The focus of the NBM is NER. In order to technically support them, NBM designated four zonal Bamboo Technical Support Groups (BTSG) where CBTC has been identified as one of the Bamboo Technical Support Group (BTSG) for the States of North Eastern Region (NER) and the Eastern States of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa.
