Cane & Bamboo Technology Park of the NEC at Burnihat, Assam

CONCEPT:
Years of experiences gained in cane & bamboo related activities have shown that the most physical way to introduce new or enhanced technologies is to demonstrate them under real conditions i.e. through pilot operations. The demonstration or pilot units reveal the features and benefits of the proposed technology, exhibit in tangible terms the infrastructural and other pre-conditions as well.
OBJECTIVES:
The Cane and Bamboo Technology Park (BTP) will facilitate in providing specialized physical and intellectual facilities to industrial firms. This Park will be capable of identifying and transferring appropriate manufacturing techniques, providing technical assistance, generating and disseminating technical information, rendering specific services such as, laboratory testing and quality assurance and, at the same time, imparting training. The prime objective of this Technology Centre is to support the development of a specific technology by assisting manufacturers in maintaining their technical perfection, knowledge base and capabilities required for successful operation. The impact of this Technology Centre will become apparent in the form of encouraging Entrepreneurs to set up such Units, use this facility to produce goods that will become raw material for an Enterprise, training of trainers etc. In other words, this Centre will relate closely to Entrepreneurs, Enterprises, Crafts people, Trainers etc. This Centre will also act as a demonstration hub. The decades of experiences gained through technical assistance have shown that the most physical way to introduce new or enhanced technologies is to demonstrate them under real conditions i.e. through pilot operations. The demonstration or pilot units reveal the features and benefits of the proposed technology, exhibit in intangible terms the infrastructural and other pre-conditions as well. These demonstration facilities will be accessible to all the interested parties to study their operation and result and gain the required operational skills. There will be eight numbers of bamboo structures to be utilized by the states of the N.E. Region for showcasing their traditional craft.
The Peer review Committee of the National Bamboo Mission headed by Mr. J.N.L. Srivastava, IAS, retd. Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperation, Govt. of India observed that hands on training for farmers and artisans are essential to improve the productivity and quality of bamboo and its products. Therefore, the committee recommended that two new institutes, one each in the North Eastern Region and South India may be established or the existing institutes/centres may be strengthened for imparting quality training to farmers, artisans and field functionaries regularly . |
PROMOTER:
The Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India has allotted a plot of land within the campus of the State Forest Service College (SFSC), Burnihat, to the North Eastern Council (NEC) for setting up of a Cane and Bamboo Technology Park (CBTP). Being the promoter of the facility, the NEC is setting up the Cane & Bamboo Technology Park (CBTP) with an estimated investment of Rs. 418. 23 lakhs .
Implementing Agency:
The NEC has entrusted the responsibility of implementing the project to the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) by following the existing norms of the Central Government and also to run the day – to - day management of the project.
INFRASTRUCTURE:
The CANE AND BAMBOO TECHNOLOGY PARK (CBTP) is envisaged to have the following facilities:
- An Administrative Block,
- A Design Centre and Resource centre
- Classroom and conference hall facilities,
- Product testing laboratory
- Bamboo & Cane Museum
- Hostels and VIP Guest Room
- A Library cum Information Hub including Networking and the like.
- Exhibition and Product Display Houses built from Bamboo numbering eight will be constructed in the Park so that all 8 States of NER can display their products in each house
- Bamboo machineries & demonstration centre
- Catering services and Dining Hall,
